The Fool’s Journey

Today we are on a Fool’s journey – a journey around the Internet to visit places and things that have come into my radar.  Our first stop is the Tarot Connection, Leisa ReFalo’s site. Leisa is now carrying Robin Tisch-Hollister’s “Minute Tarot” – a Tarot of 78 quick insights. Each card was drawn and colored in under five minutes, as an exercise to help move the artist past a creative block.  The deck is done in the Rider-Waite tradition, and appears to be quite usable. Lisa is offering it through her site.

The next site we are going to visit is a blog site – TarotElements, authored/edited by Catherine Chapman, co-author of “Beyond The Celtic Cross”. The current (as of this writing) post is on Zoran Cross, and the Psychosynthesis spread. Much as in her book, Catherine shares with us a psychological Tarot reading done for her by Zoran Cross. She shares the layout for the cards, as well as the commentary for the reading itself. The deck used was CIro Marchetti’s “Legacy of the Divine” Tarot.

Another offering from Catherine is Craig Conley’s take on the Mansion of Madness Tarot. This is a screenplay where the action is driven by Tarot cards. Every archetype appears in the film, as well as several Court Cards.

From Douglass Gibbs (www.taroteon.com) I thoroughly enjoyed his take on the Chariot – Triumphant Victory versus image of the Church – The Chariot. Lots of interesting commentary to think about here.

From Alison Cross we have a brand new non-Tarot website that may interest many of us (I know that it interests me!) – Hestia’s Larder. Here she will be discussing recipes, doing cookbook reviews, and all kinds of things! Alison is funny, down to earth, and has a lot to say. I am already signed up and tuned in!

Ciro has already found his way into the chat, so I am mention his newest site also, since I love to play there! Legacy of the Divine Tarot. This is a members site where you can find Tarot articles, a Wall of Knowledge with tidbits of Tarot wisdom, a gift shop that carries Ciro’s decks, Giclee canvases, Tarot bags, reading cloths, cushions and more, information on all of the cards from the “Legacy of the Divine Tarot”, and a room to do readings in (with the ability to write and save comments on your readings).

Enjoy your journey through the land of Tarot!

Past Life Reading

Past Life Reading

Note: This template is based on a template for Past Life Reading developed by Rose Vanden Eynden (@RoseofAvalon) – http://vandeneynden.biz/blog/.

1 3 2

5 4 6

7 9 8

>11 10 12

The deck that I used for this reading was the “Hezicos Tarot”, by Mary Griffin (www.hezikostarot.com).

Card 1 – Basic Soul Nature (Seeker) – Seven of Cups

Card 2 – Basic Soul Nature (Second Person) – Ten of Rods

Card 3 – Present Life Issue – Five of Swords

Card 4 – Past Life Influence – Two of Cups

Card 5 – Environmental/Early Life Influences In Past Life – The Hierophant

Card 6 – Accomplishments in Past Life – Six of Coins

Card 7 – Past Life Relationship – Nine of Rods

Card 8 – Past Life Death – End of Life – Six of Swords

Card 9 – How The Past Life Affects This Lifetime – Three of Cups

Card 10 – Lessons The Soul Needs To Learn – The Emperor

Card 11 – What Energy Will Help The Seeker To Learn This Lesson? – Knight of Coins

Card 12 – What Is The Next Step? – Two of Swords

The basic soul nature for the Seeker lies in the emotional realm. They are wide open to their intuition, and to fantasies and dreams. This Seeker needs to be able to discern between reality and illusion, and develop their dreams in a positive manner.

The basic soul nature of the second person lies the world of action – of follow through, if you will. This person needs to remember that there are consequences for all actions. And they need to be able to organize their activities in an efficient manner. This person needs to acknowledge just how much activity they can take on, and when it becomes overwhelming.

The present life issue is that of a sense of restlessness, of mental battles between the Seeker and the second person. The party who ses themselves as losing here is going to feel a lack of self worth. Worst case scenario – they will not feel able to cope with life.

The past life influence is that of two individuals who are very deeply connected. The emotions of one individual are mirrored in the second individual. There is also an ability to accept the differences in each other.

Past life environmental early life influences are all about (religious) belief systems and (familial/societal) expectations, It is a feeling of wanting to move beyond what we know, to move beyond what is acceptable. It is about moving beyond the security of community approval and carving our own path. Here we make the decision to either accept the values of our family/community/society, or develop our own values, based on our own experiences. It is all about knowing what to keep and what to release – what serves us well, and what no longer serves us well.

The Seeker’s accomplishments in their past life relate to having attained a attained a certain level of material goods and societal status. This was a time when the Seeker was moving from working hard to attain a certain level of wealth to using that wealth in an ethical, spiritual manner.

The past life relationship between the Seeker and the second person was that of distrust. There needed to be more open mindedness here, as well as the ability to leave the past in the past.

End of life in the past life had to do with being unable to release old thought patterns. The Seeker was not able to, or choose not to, address some issue in their life. This brought about their demise.

How this particular past lifetime affects this lifetime is in a very positive manner. The past that was not able to be addressed/released is now being released. There is no w great happiness, celebration, and a sense of optimism.

The lessons that the Seeker’s soul needs to learn are those of making decisions and taking action – bringing order out of chaos, being a mentor, and taking responsibility. Seeking clarity is a large part of this lesson.

The energy that the Seeker needs to access to learn this lesson is that of caution. Informed risk taking come to mind. Putting in the work of life.

With this lesson learned, the next step is that of thinking too much. The Seeker is not seeing clearly, to the point hat they may be avoiding some truths in their life. Far of change is also indicated here.

I can follow this reading through to the next to last card, and everything falls into place and makes sense. The final card – well, it makes no sense to me at all! It is as if the Seeker is taking a step back! Any thoughts?

Freemasonry – Rituals, Symbols & History of the Secret Society

Freemasonry –

Rituals, Symbols & History

Of the Secret Society

Author: Mark Stavish

Llewellyn Worldwide

2007

ISBN #978-0-7387-1148-5

The Freemasons are the largest fraternal organization in the world, and one of the most well known mystery societies. Author Mark Stavish is an active Freemason, a Thirty-Second degree member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the Knights Templar and the Order of the Eastern Star. Why is this important? Only someone on the inside, someone familiar with the workings of the Freemasons, could provide such cohesive insight into their history, their philosophy, and how their ideals interact with day-to-day life.

The depth of scholarship in this book are reflected, in part, in the acknowledgments section when Stavish speaks of the assistance given to him by Brother Charles S. Canning, Director of the Harry C. Trexler Masonic Library (Allentown, PA). Brother Canning not only performed research for this book, but he also reviewed the manuscript.

In his foreword, Brother Lon Milo DuQuette speaks of an informal gathering of Freemasons at an undisclosed location, in an incredibly beautiful Masonic Temple. Part of his reflection is on the building itself, and its incredible sense of geometry (something that Masonic Temples are known for). DuQuette indicates that Masonry is once again becoming a secret society, largely because of public concerns over its esoteric nature. He goes on to say that the only demographic group applying for Masonic membership in significant numbers is that of young men passionately interested in the esoteric mysteries of the Craft.

In his introduction, Stavish notes that the symbols used by Freemasonry have their roots in both Jewish and Christian religious and mystical practices, with the fundamental notion of Freemasonry being that of build or creating. Masonry has a great deal to do with how a man lives his life – with the virtues of faith, hope and charity, as well as the Golden Rule being implicit in all Masons. Stavish states that by the example of improving himself, a Mason improves the world around him. A Mason will also be religiously devoted/mystically inclined. Within himself, each Mason constructs the Temple of Wisdom. The mystical nature of a Mason comes last, according to Stavish, because it is most personal.

In the beginning of this book is a short chapter on how to use it. This impressed me, because it placed the reader on notice that this was not just a book to be read, information assimilated, and book set aside. The information presented here is a beginning, and there is a path to be followed. In “Freemasonry”, Stavish presents the events that are behind the origin and growth of Freemasonry, why they are still important today, and how to live a “Masonic” life as a “creator, builder and friend of God and humanity”, whether the reader wishes to wear a Masonic apron or not.

It is suggested that the reader have a notebook handy, along with colored pencils or pens. It is suggested that the reader go over the list of recommended books at the end of each chapter, and read one of them. Another suggestion is to pay attention to your dreams – Bravo Mr. Stavish – excellent suggestion! Another suggestion that I heartily concur with is starting each reading session with a prayer.

Covered in this book are the different types of Freemasonry, he history behind the Temple of Solomon, Masonic initiation, sacred geometry, the Masonic Quest, Scottish Rite, Occult Masonry, the York Rite and the Knights Templar, and Freemasonry and the European Occult Revival. Each chapter ends with a listing of Key Points, Assignments – actions that the reader can take, and a suggested reading list.

The appendices include “Sacred Geometry and the Masonic Tradition”, by John Michael Greer, Symbols of the Tracing Boards and the Degrees, and Excerpts From “Morals and Dogma” on the Three Degrees of Masonry.

For anyone interested in knowing more about Freemasonry, or perhaps in joining the society, this book is an excellent first step on the path of wisdom.

My Ponytail Is Purple – The Color of Change

My Ponytail Is Purple -

The Color of Change

Author: drSophera

Artist: drSophera & family

Comfort Cottage Chronicle

2010

ISBN #978-0-578-05225-0

Comfort Cottage

A seed was planted in the garden of hope;

a spiritual awakening

blossomed while learning to cope.

- Forever a Page walking a Fool’s Path -

drSophera

(from the back cover)

I felt very humbled and blessed when my friend Debbie Sophera Rossignol asked me to read this book in an early digital format – before it became this wonderful, beautiful work of art. This story is Debbie’s – about her personal path, and the path of the Tarot. It is about marriage, the dissolution of marriage, single parenthood, trying hard to make things work … and then trying harder. It is about the death, at far too young an age, of her firstborn son, Joey. It is about life.

Written in journalistic style, with each entry noted by day and time, the format is very “stream of consciousness”. Beginning with a poignant note to Joey, the book is broken down by year – 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, with each year further broken down into seasons.

Joey died in July of 2004. In the Fall of 2004 the Tarot entered Debbie’s life – an instant attraction, and a help with life’s unending questions. Kept from friends and family at first, Debbie’s questions focus on why Joey had to leave this life so early, and what she needs to know about this. Her heart is heavy, as she searches for understanding.

Each entry is uncensored – a direct reflection of what Debbie’s thoughts were at that point in time. From the book:

“Winter 2004

Next thing I knew it was thanksgiving and I choose to spend it alone. The people we called family for thirteen years were more work than I could handle. Christmas was coming and I didn’t want it to but it would arrive anyway.

As usual, when I needed to count on those that cannot be counted on to get some things done; it just does not work out well. Two days before the first Christmas without you … He said, “come on we are going Christmas shopping”. I didn’t want to go, but I did want your brother and sister to have a good day, so I went.

CRASH!

I saw it coming and sure enough … it was a direct hit.

I spent that Christmas wishing I were alone.

The season of change and the gift called time.”

From here on we glimpse life through the lens of a woman in a less than perfect marriage, with two children to nurture, a house to run, a garden to plant, a community to serve, and a body wracked with pain from the car accident. There are good times, and bad, attempts at making things better that work, and attempts that don’t work so well. Another marriage left.

Then Mr. B appears – the Knight in shining armor, the gentleman, the perfect (if there is such a thing!) partner. Life gets better … much better! Debbie has a new home, a new garden, new friends … and can use her considerable talents in the many ways that she loves. She can work in her garden, do crafts for the house, do Tarot readings for the public … life is good!

Debbie has a purple ponytail … purple, of course, being the color of change. In her book she includes herbal recipes, flower recipes, photo’s of Comfort Cottage (where Debbie does her readings), family art (including a self portrait by Joey), poetry, Tarot readings, Tarot reviews, a meditation on the Ace of Cups, a Tarot spread, information about her Tarot deck in the making, and a wonderful list of the Tarot books that grace her home.

This wonderful lady is a CTA (Certified Tarot Associate), garden artist, freelance writer, owner of Comfort Cottage and Tarot in the garden. In this book she shares her life, and her path. You can find more information about Debbie’s work at www.comfort-cottage.com.

I highly recommend this amazing story of Debbie’s personal journey, and her companion on this journey … the Tarot.

As Debbie would say: “Wishing you an ahha kinda day!”

From the book:

“The message that I hope to share is that we all need to care about each other. I can move foreward now because I took a chance and “Painted My Ponytail Purple”!!!
I know … you really want to ask why, don’t you?
I choose to have lots to talk about when we get together!
Some things never change!”
“Joey, My life is so different and somehow more since you opened the door for me, thanks.”

Gaian Tarot – Limited Edition

The Gaian Tarot (Limited Edition)

Author: Joanna Powell Colbert

Artist: Joanna Powell Colbert

Independently Published

2010

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do

with your one wild and precious life?”

Mary Oliver

(Printed within a blessing wreath on an extra card with this deck.)

I have followed Joanna Powell Colbert’s work since the beginnings of her major’s only version of the “Gaian Tarot”. I dearly love that deck, and use it often for personal readings and for ritual purposes. In the spirit of transparency, I have to say that part of the appeal is that the imagery in both the major’s only and the full 78 card version of the “Gaian Tarot” is based on the geography of the Pacific Northwest, which is where I live. I can look at a card and immediately connect with it, both through my knowledge of the Tarot and through personal memories that are evoked.

This is a traditional 78 card deck, using the traditional titles for the Major Arcana, with the following exceptions: the Fool becomes the Seeker, the High Priestess becomes the Priestess, the Empress becomes the Gardner, the Emperor becomes the Builder, the Hierophant becomes the Teacher, the Chariot becomes the Canoe, the Wheel of Fortune becomes the Wheel, the Hanged Man becomes the Tree, Temperance becomes Bindweed, the Tower becomes Lightening, Judgment becomes Awakening, and the World becomes Gaia the World.

The presentation of the Majors Only Special Edition was absolutely incredible – doable only through the auspices of a “village” … a very special village of friends. Between decks Joanna moved from her beloved island to the mainland … but the presentation of the Limited Edition 78 Card Gaian Tarot was also blessed with a “village of friends”. To all of the ladies and gentlemen involved in getting both decks out into the world in a sacred manner – thank you, and bless you!

Included in the Special Edition package is the 78 card “Gaian Tarot” deck (offered in two sizes – 4” by 6”, and 3.5” by 5.25”, from a run of 500 each), a signed and numbered title card (showing a white background with a muted version of the herbal wreath from the deck back, and the signature and card number in beautiful gold script), a unique, handmade Tarot bag (made by Elaine Nichols, the same lady that made the lovely velvet bags for the majors only deck), a handmade Gaian Tarot amulet with the image of your choice tied to the bag, Joanna’s small bag of blessing herbs (Sage, Sweetgrass, Lavender and Cedar), and a 195 page signed companion book. Note: Due to customs regulations, the bag of blessing herbs will not be included in overseas orders.

The companion book – “Gaian Tarot – Healing the Earth, Healing Ourselves”, is a treasure in and of itself. The cover shows a portion of the beautiful Priestess card – the lovely lady standing, wearing a white robe with a blue and lavender patterned vest, the waning moon and an owl hovering over her right shoulder. The left hand side of her head shows a young woman (Maiden), with the right hand side showing older “wise woman” (Crone) imagery. On her headband we see the crescent moon of the Maiden, and in her hands she hold a pomegranate.

Uniqueness starts with the table of contents, where the cards are listed by title, and then by theme. For example:

    • The Seeker – A New Beginning
    • The Priestess – Dreams, Voices and Visions
    • Justice – Karmic Balance
    • Sixes – Community, Reciprocity, Peak Experience
    • Children – Learning, Wondering, Beginning
  • Elders – Holding Wisdom, Giving Counsel

The title for each chapter appears over a light gray version of the wreath of blessing herbs. Each card is presented with a black and white scan, an explanation of the card, what it means in a reading, what the shadow side of the card is (much preferable, IMHO, than using the label “reversed meaning”). For the Major Arcana, Joanna has included an inset entitled “Deepen your understanding of (card name)”, where she lists themes of the card, briefly discusses the meaning of the symbols found in the card, lists several questions that can be used for journaling purposes, and gifts the reader with an affirmation for each card. The Minor Arcana presentation includes the same information, with the exception of the theme and “Deepen your understanding” inset. The Court Cards presentation includes theme, and explanation of the card, what it means in a reading, it’s Shadow side, and an affirmation.

Joanna introduces the Major Arcana as Soul Lessons, while the Pips (numbered cards) are seen through the lens of their number and element, and the Court cards showing a complete sequence: the Children (Pages) are shown as encountering their element for the first time, the Explorers (Knights) are in the process of discovering the qualities of their suit. The Guardians (Queens) are nurturing and preserving the qualities of their suit. The Elders (Kings) are passing on/teaching the wisdom of their suit.

Joanna discuses working with a card a day, framing questions, reading the Shadow side of the cards, and doing three card readings. She presents spreads from several people in the Tarot world: James Wells’ Helpful All-Purpose Spread, her own New Moon Spread, Beth Owl’s Daughter’s “Predict Your Future By Creating It” Spread, James Wells’ Ten Card Layout, her own New Moon Spread #2, her own New Year Spread, Carolyn Cushing’s “Aligning With the Earth” Spread, and James Wells’ Gaian Spread.

The deck that I am working with is the 3.5” by 5.25” version. The cards were printed by a local (to Joanna) green printer on sturdy card stock using recycled paper, soy ink, and a aqueous coating on the cards. The card backs (which are reversible) show a dark blue night sky with white stars, and a large version of the blessing wreath centered on the card. In the center of the wreath is a glowing white light. The wreath of blessing herbs creates a portal between this world and the Otherworld.

The card faces show a ¼” white border, with the card number and element (for the Pips), card number and title (for the Major Arcana), card title and element (for the Court Cards) printed at the bottom of the card. The imagery on the cards reflects the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest. The style of art is a combination of “real world” and “otherworld” that blends into its own reality. The colors are both intense and “real”. The people imagery in this deck comes from people in Joanna’s life.

The Hermit has to be my all time favorite card in this deck (and in the Special Edition Major Arcana ‘Gaian Tarot” deck). He sits with his back to a tree, in a white robe and a blue cape with purple lining. His lamp is in front of him, and he is writing in his journal. In the upper right hand corner we see his Guardian, the Barred Owl.

In the Ten of Water we see the life cycle of the salmon, born in freshwater and carried downstream to the ocean to mature. They then return upstream to spawn, and then die.

In the Guardian of Fire we see a male figure literally keeping watch over an outdoor fire, with the woods and a night sky in the background. His ally, the Bobcat, sits to one side watching.

The Star shows a female figure in a white robe, kneeling by a sacred spring, cupping in her hands the Water of Life. In the background we see the night sky.

The Builder is patterned after Joanna’s husband, Craig. He is a master craftsman, and is shown carvng a design of leaves and acorns into a post that flanks his front door. Dried herbs hang from the rafters, and firewood is stacked for the winter.

Death in this deck always makes me want to cry. A Heron lies dead in an old, decaying boat on the beach. A vulture flies overhead, while ants and spiders crawl over the carcass. Wild roses and elderberry are growing up through the rotting boat. To the west are the islands of the Otherworld.

This is a gentle, yet intense deck. It could be used by any level of reader, and is appropriate for a diverse clientele.

There will be a mass market edition of the “Gain Tarot” (deck and book) coming out in September of 2011 from Llewellyn Worldwide. Scans from the “Gaian Tarot” can be seen at www.gaiantarot.com.

Legend of Justice and Diamonds

The Legend of Justice and Diamonds

Author: Louis F. Hemsey

Xulon Press

2010

ISBN #978-1615797981

I was getting fussy about this book before I even started reading it. Why? Because I had agreed to review it in digital format. I have done this before, but it is not fun. Now, I do like the digital format – I have the computer version of Kindle on my laptop, and do like using it, but for review purposes – I really prefer a print book. However, once I got into the book, I devoured it as fast as I could! I am going to get the print version, just because I want to read it again, and I want to feel it in my hands!

The book is more like an ancient parable than a work of fiction – i.e. something read for entertainment purposes only. The narrator for this book is Acellus, the Creators scribe, and he first Angelic Being. He has been instructed by the Creator to gaze across the void and record what he sees in what we know as the first earth (we are now in the second earth). This material is presented in a series of three books – Part I – The Beginning, Part II – Bloodlines, and Part II – Dante.

The story revolves around the six year reign of the first evil King – the King of Clubs. This is the time of the original struggle between good and evil. The action takes place in three realms: (1) the Forest of Cards, where mankind’s virtues reside (in the form of the archetypes of the Tarot Major Arcana), (2) the earthly realm of the King of Clubs, and (3) the realm of the Keepers, the ones who read the Tarot cards.

The forces of Darkness and Light are focused on two beings who are going to shape mankind and the second earth to some: the Lady Justice and the Jack of Diamonds. The Lady Justice represents moral virtue, coming from the Forest of Cards, and the auspices of the Hermit and Temperance. The Jack of Diamonds is the son of the King of Clubs and the Queen of Diamonds, an outlaw that was thought to have been murdered as a baby.

The storyline revolves around three generations – the King of Clubs, his wives – the Queen of Diamonds (whom he has murdered), mother to his son, the rebel Jack of Diamonds, and the Queen of Spades, mother to his second son, the Ace of Spades, and his grandsons – Dante, son of the Jack of Diamonds and the Lady Justice, and Lucian, son of the Ace of Spades and the Lady Arabella of Saxon.

The court titles follow those of regular playing cards, as opposed to the court titles of the Minor Arcana. The titles of the virtues – or archetypes – are those of the traditional Major Arcana. The soldiers, for the most part, carry the numbers 4 through 10, rather than names.

I found the Keepers to be interesting. For the major portion of this book, the Keeper was Augustinian. He was the caretaker for the book entitled Keepers of the Tarot, where the keepers recorded their readings of the Tarot cards, and the caretaker of the (Tarot) cards. The blank card in this special deck was destined to become the card of Justice (Lady Justice). The Keeper would draw and place the cars that would tell the story. He was followed by a female Keeper, Aurora.

From the Forest of Cards, where the archetypes lived as immortals, the Hermit would see the visions and tell the story. Through entering the pond and crossing the portal to earth, the immortals could change mankind’s history. This was the fight between the Dark Forces, with Death as their emissary, and the Forces of Light, with the Hermit as their emissary.

The archetypes are seen with all of their qualities – good and bad. It was surprising for me to see the Star, the Magician, and the Hanged Man portrayed as aligned with the forces of Darkness, but it does move the story along, and if they are not well aspected, the negative qualities do belong to these archetypes. It was also interesting to see the Fool go from his “idiot” self to crossing the portal to earth, taking a wife and becoming counselor to the King, along with his wife.

It was more understandable to see the Chariot cross over and show his positive qualities as a military leader, and a leader of men.

The ending of this book was not one that I particularly cared for, but it did set the scene, as it were, for a sequel with battles on two fronts – between Dante as King and Lucian, who feels he should be King, and Lucian and his older brother Drake, who feels that he should be on the throne.

Hemsey has a good grasp of the Tarot, of the qualities of the virtues, and of esoteric thought in general. This is a well written, well paced book that makes credible transitions between the three realms, and between differing times. It is much more than a nice fiction read based on the Tarot – it is interesting, and thought provoking.

There is a wonderful video on the Face Book page for this book that can be seen here: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=454005925505.

We Are Live!

I just got my “Women In Tarot” e-book up live on my site. What an incredible feeling! Rereading the interviews  was such an amazing journey – theirs and mine. I should mention one fact that was brought to my attention, and that is that the bios for some (if not all) of the ladies originally interviewed are outdated.

It has been a few years, and what is mentioned is of course now history. I chose not to edit that out because I wanted the interviews to stand as they were – a part of the history of that time. However, thanks to Rachel (Pollack), I now have an idea for a second e-book – one that will include all of the interviews that I have done.

The new book will be offered in both e-book and print format, and the individuals being interviewed will be able to update their bios and add whatever they wish to the interview. This will take a couple of months to put together, so stay tuned!

The link to my current e-book is www.bonniecehovet.com/WomenInTaroteBook.html.

Enjoy!

Real Life

I was watching the Pistons/Cav’s game Friday night when there was a true OMG! moment. Piston’s player Rodney Stuckey walked over to the sidelines at the beginning of a time out to speak to a teammate. He felt light headed, and ended up passing out in the arms of the team trainer. He did not immediately regain consciousness.

Trainers and medical personnel from both teams rushed over to help him. Paramedics appeared with a stretcher immediately, and security formed a line to guarantee that the paramedics could get the stretcher out of the arena so Stuckey could be taken to the hospital;

Floor commentator Lisa Salter (Lisa – I hope I have your last name spelled correctly!) indicated that Stuckey may have had a seizure, although she emphasized that this was not a known fact. The network took the coverage immediately to the halftime team, so that there would not be unnecessary video of Stuckey being treated. The half-time team did a wonderful job of not adding fuel to the fire – their commentary was knowledgible, gracious, and caring.

I sat there in shock and tears – but very pleased that everyone was stepping up and doing what they could to help Rodney Stuckey. I read yesterday that it had not been determined what happened to him, but that he was being released from the hospital.

This reminded me so much of the movie “Airport”, starring George Kennedy. In that movie a severely damaged plane, with injured crew and passengers, is coming in to land at a major airport that is itself dealing with snowy, icy conditions. The “shirts” from the major airlines cannot seem to get together to clear a runway for the landing.

George Kennedy, playing the character of maintenance crew chief for the airline with the damaged plane, personally contacts the maintenance crew chiefs from the other airlines. Yes, all of the airline maintenance crews act together to clear that runway, and light it for the landing. The plane lands safely, and lives are saved.

This is the movies, and this is what is “supposed” to happen in the movies. I just saw this happen in real life – it was nice to know that people can step up, that they can do what they need to do, when there isn’t really time to “think things through”. My personal thanks to everyone who stepped up and helped Rodney Stuckey. May we all fnd this courage within ourselves whenever needed.
