The Sibila da Antevisao is a 52 card oracle deck, based on French playing cards. The cards are structured along the line of French playing cards, with the suits being Clubs, Cups, Swords and Diamonds, with each suit running from Ace to King (thirteen cards in each suit). In reading the cards, Pereira notes that reversals are acceptable. The cards can be interpreted by combination (i.e. two card spreads, three card spreads, etc.), with the student encouraged to use their own creativity, their own intuition, in performing readings. Existing spreads (i.e. The Celtic Cross, and Three Card spreads etc.)  can be used with this deck.

Creator Ricardo Pereira is a Brazilian digital artist, researcher of Tarot history and fortune teller. He developed the Sibila da Antevisao oracular deck, as well as writing the companion book for it. He does oracular consultations, as well as teaching Tarot courses, the Petit Lenormand, Sibila Della Zingara, and the Sibila da Antevisao.

In his introduction to the 19 page companion book, Pereira talks about the urge to create the Sibila da Antevisao as coming from a need to create an objective deck, with associations that were easy to work with. The art is digital, reflecting the themes of everyday life, including cards follow the basic precepts of the Petit Lenormand, and Sibyls in general.

The 116 page companion book has a beautiful orange background dotted with tiny yellow flowers. The cover shows the image of Love Potion – 7 of Cups. Here we see a beautiful gray tray with, from left to right, beautiful red flowers, the alchemical potion itself in a stoppered flask, followed by a wine glass to drink the potion from. The book is in Portuguese, but Pereira has an English version in pdf format that he sends to anyone who buys the book. I was very happy to see this, as it allowed those of us that need the material in English to work with this beautiful deck.

Each card is presented with a black and white image, a discussion of the card, and upright and reversed meanings. The following spreads are included at the back of the book: Tres Segredos, Calice da antevisao, Tau, X do amor, Relogio da vida, Espantalho, Tempo nublado, Calculo do tempo, Encantamnto na encruzilhada, Tunel, Frutos do amor, Peladan, Cruz celta, O Jogo do relacionamento, Circulo celestial, Passado presente e futuro, Portal astrologico, Ferradura, and Piramide do amor. There is a bibliography included at the end of the book.

The cards are 2 ½” by 3 ¾”, with quality card stock. The backs show the same orange background with yellow flowers as the book cover. I almost missed it, but Pereira has his initials placed discretely in the middle of the card, back to back, so that the cards are reversible. Nice touch!

The card faces show an orange border, with the card title in a red ribbon at the bottom, and the suit icon at the top of the page, with the card number (or initial, for the court cards) written on the icon. The card imagery is in the center of the card. The artwork is digital, with strong, clean colors. The deck has rather a retro 40’s feel to it. Most of the cards show human interaction, a few of them are animal based, such as the three snakes in the Nest of Snakes – 5 of Cups, and the donkey in the Donkey -6 of Swords. Other cards show simple scenes – a table set for two in Café – 6 of Cups, a pen and paper on the table in the Pen and Paper – Two of Swords, an open treasure chest in the middle of a formal living room in the Chest – 7 of Clubs, and two beautiful red potted plants in the Pansy – 2 of Cups.

In the sixth chapter of the book are mentioned some combinations possible of cards the Sibila da Antevisao deck, for exemple: Pansy and Wedding Cake means loving commitment, marriage.

Here are a few of my favorite cards from this deck:

img100

Man With Dog – King of Cups

Meanings: father, married man, paternity, male universe, home, family, provision, faithful friendship, help, groom, romanticism, seduction, influential person

Reversed: disloyalty, infidelity, disillusion

img102

Ruler and Scale – 2 of Diamonds

Meanings: balance, business and contract, need to measure the pros and cons of a fact, commitment and unity after the variables

Reversed: imbalance, recklessness, error

img103

Nest of Snakes – 5 of Cups

Meanings: jealousy, envy, greed, blackmail, distrust, betrayal, estrangement, trap, competition, rivalry, falsehood, scandal, intrigue, thievery, corruption, sabotage, mental poisoning, gossip, rebellion, tension.

Reversed: loyalty, harmony, tolerance, peace

 img104

Coffee – 6 of Cups

Meanings: visit, approach, meeting, reencounter, nice indeed, promise fulfilled, surprise, intimacy, generosity, satisfaction, pleasure, invitation

Reversed: mismatch, false promise, mistake

img105

Teenage – Knave of Diamonds

Meanings: preadolescent or adolescent, professional vagueness, academy, fun, immaturity

Reversed: independence, maturity, ideal

img106

Old Lady – Queen of Diamonds

Meanings: experience, protective, mother, aunt, grandma, relative, boss, wisdom, competence, wisdom, rationality, focus, leadership, independence, prosperity

Reversed: imprudence, tiredness, disease

I found this to be a very upbeat, easy oracle to work with. The titles are in Portuguese, but the energy from the card, along with the icon at the top of the card that designates the suite, allows the reader to tell the story.

Sibila da Antevisao

I absolutely adore the cover for the digital version of the companion book to the Sibila da Antevisao! (Note: The same cover is used on the cover for the print version of the companion book.) It is done in lovely, bright colors, featuring Love Potion – 7 of Cups. In a beautiful gray tray we see a pot of lovely red flowers, followed by the love potion itself in a stoppered flask, followed by a beautiful wine glass holding the potion to be drunk. It is graceful, gracious symbolism. Loving the esoteric myself, the stoppered flask was very appealing!

Each card is presented in text only, with the theme for the card, upright and reversed meanings. For example:

img101

Seed – Ace of Clubs

Meanings: beginning, germination, new time, novelty, something that has just been generated or produced, idea or project development, initial advance, cycle or stage of development, luck, learning, tendency to abundance, success and prosperity, health, vitality, peace

Reversed: final, involution, failure, loss, bad luck

 img099

Love Potion – 7 of Cups

Meanings: fantasy, enchantment, spell, illusion, mistake, interference in life and others will, unrequited passion, platonic love, self-deception, living dream

Reversed: There is no spell. Reality. It is not the end.

 img100

Man With Dog – King of Cups

Meanings: father, married man, paternity, male universe, home, family, provision, faithful friendship, help, groom, romanticism, seduction, influential person

 Reversed: disloyalty, infidelity, disillusion

I very much appreciate that Pereira made the effort to translate this material into English. His stated goal is to make the material accessible to oracle fortunetellers around the world, so that it may serve as a bridge to self-knowledge. He has more than accomplished his goal!

Time To Think Holiday Shopping – Part 1!

Time To Think Holiday Shopping – Part 1!

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Many people feel that it is inappropriate to think about holiday shopping until after Thanksgiving. The thought behind this is that each holiday deserves its own moment in time. I feel that we can celebrate Thanksgiving in the manner that it was meant to be celebrated in, and still start planning our holiday shopping. If we give ourselves enough time to shop, we can actually create a budget, come up with meaningful gifts, and do it all without massive amounts of stress.

I am doing a series of blogs on gifts that come from the world of Tarot and divination. The items featured are those that struck my eye. Some will be recently out, some may have been out for some time. They all have an intrinsic value, from my point of view, and are worth considering. At the end of each blog you will find links to my other holiday themed blogs.

This blog is about Tarot and other divinatory books.

Review – Resonance Oracle Cards

Resonance Oracle Cards

Resonance Oracle Cards box

The “Resonance Oracle Cards” is a 40 card oracle deck that was created with the intention of aiding others in finding their own way to wisdom, truth, and balance. Both the text and the artwork are channeled.

The cards and Guidebook come in a beautiful box with a magnetic lid closure (signature Schiffer). The front of the box shows a side view of an eagle, sitting above a pair of compelling blue eyes. From the back of the box:

“Find answers for all your deepest questions, including the emotional, mental, and spiritual guidance allowing you to find your own path of joy, peace, balance, and wisdom. Messages also embrace nuances of physical reality, such as technology and lines of communication. Author/artist Dara Caplan channeled the messages and art, and included the power of intent in order to give you the best experience possible. The images and meanings do not discriminate between gender or type; the animals, magical beings, people, and plants of this world are all honored as special beings in this artwork. The 40 beautiful images reflect life’s truths – there are some cards that are surreal and dreamlike, and some that are romantic or dramatic. While each I different, they are all on black backgrounds, and have warmth and light to balance the shadows – the warmth of memories, or the soft light of new beginnings. Through this magical oracle, find your own path that resonates deep inside you.”

The cover art for the 95 page guidebook is the same art that is used for the back of the cards. In the section on how to use the cards, it is noted that they will work just as well for both beginners and experienced readers. Caplan emphasizes that the cards work on the concept of the Law of Attraction, in that you will receive the message that you are meant to receive. Cards that fall out are seen as messages that your spiritual allies feel that you need to have. It is recommended that you clear the deck before beginning to use it, and that you clear it periodically if you feel energy clinging to it, and weighing it down.

Each card is presented with a quarter page black and white image, a short paragraph about the card, and alternate meanings,

The cards themselves are 3 ½” by 5”, with the imagery presented landscape style. The backs show a dark background, with a gold stalk on either side of the card (facing in opposite directions). In the middle of the card are what appears to be a gold leaf, and two red and one blue artifacts. The card is not reversible. (Reading reversals is not addressed in the Guidebook.)

The card faces are shown landscape style, with a dark background, and a ¼” colored border set in from the sides of the card, framing the card image. The card title runs across the bottom of the card in light gold letters.

Some of the cards that appealed to me were:

“Eclipse: When darkness falls, and it seems light is scarce, remember that it continues to be all around, even if it is hidden. Mysteries will unfold, and answers given; you need only have the faith to persevere. Transitions are upon you now, dear one. Trust in the beautiful universe, for it supports you always.

Alternate meanings:

• Appreciate the mysteries of Life and Spirit.
• Believe, for this difficulty is temporary.
• This is for the best, although it may not yet seem so.
• Things are disorienting and cloudy right now, or soon will be, but you will prevail.”

“Mystic Dreaming: Your dreams are the voice of your subconscious self, dear one. Do not discount them! While it is true they may seem random, often they are metaphors and visual cues – the language of your subconscious – delivering an important messag which may provide clarity into what is concerning you and the near future. Keeping a dream journal by your bedside helps you to examine them later and figure out what you are being told. Right now it is time to pay attention to these dreams, or meditate to receive themesages trying to reach you.

Alternate meanings:

• There’s an important message trying to reach you through dreams or meditation and you should not discount it.
• If you are puzzled by dreams lately, you should try researching online or in abook to find out how the symbols in the dream relate to your circumstances, because therin lies your clarity.”

I really do not find the dark coloring of this deck appealing, but I do find that the messages the cards are imparting are clear and relevant. Go figure! Yes, I do highly recommend working with these cards!

Tell It Like It Is!

Fair warning … this is a rant! If you don’t like rants, then move along. The rest of you can stay. In blogs and in chat rooms, I have been seeing more and more readers expounding on – and bragging about – the fact that they “tell it like it is”. No sugar-coating to their readings! Their clients get the absolute, unvarnished truth! Woo hoo!

From my point of view, a Tarot reading – or any other type of divinatory reading, is meant to be empowering to the Seeker. They are meant to gain insight into their issue(s), and walk away with a clear understanding of what their options are, and what the best way to proceed might be.  Whatever system is used for the reading, it should be able to mirror the energy in the Seeker’s life, and tell their story.

I had the lovely opportunity this weekend to see “truth in action” reading, and I walked away very sad … and very disturbed. The reader told their client that the person they were asking about  just needed to be let go, and for them to move on with their life. To bluntly announce this,  which was clearly hurtful to the person asking the question, and to then immediately move on to the next caller was inexcusable. It got worse – congratulations were in order because the readings were moving along so quickly … all due to the reader giving the callers the “truth” in such a blunt manner.

A good reader will see the truth of a situation, and this truth is what their client needs to hear. You don’t have to sugar-coat anything, but you can deliver your message in such a manner that your client feels supported. Send them away with action steps that they can take to do the moving on, or at least give them things to review so that they can at least think about doing so. (None of us make changes until the time is ready.)

Rant over. I am sure that those readers that choose to read in this manner will continue to do so. Please advertise your intentions loudly, so that I do not inadvertently come to you for a reading.
