The Mystereum Tarot – Chat With Temperance

I am taking a page from my friend Helen Howell’s book, and chatting with the Tarot. In this case, specifically with Temperance. I was kicked rather hard by the latest Mercury retrograde, and by the latest astrological configurations up there in the sky. The good thing about this time period – Aries is doing very well, so my Aries friends are having clear sailing, which I am grateful for! I am getting back on track – healing, as it were, which is why the chat with Temperance. Also, in a bit of synchronicity, Jordan Hoggard, the creative genius behind “Tarot In The Land of Mystereum” has been quite ill with food poisening, and is now on the mend. Temperance energy for Jordan too!

Temperance has agreed to chat with me. We are sitting in my living room, with glasses of iced tea in hand. I want to thank her for her time, and for her wisdom.

I often think of Temperance as the “healing angel” in the deck. The first thing I want to ask Temperance today is “How do you see yourself?”

“My goodness – the healing angel! Thank you very much, that is quite a nice thought! I have never really thought about how I might see myself. I feel that I have a job to do, and that how I do that job depends on the person or people that I am working with, and the nature of the situation. Sometimes the people, or the situation, are ready to be healed, so things can be done in a very gentle manner. However, there are occasions when the people involved, or the situation itself, is blind to the fact that healing is necessary. In that case, the “tough love” part of me comes out. You could say that I see myself as the “middle-man”, in an “As Above, So Below” kind of way.”

“What one word would best describe your world?”

“Balance – the word balance nicely describes my world. My focus, my goal, is to maintain balance in all things.”

“Balance … I like that thought! Whenever you have entered my life you have brought peace and harmony with you. For this I give unending thanks!”

“You are most welcome! I am at my best when a little harmony saves the day!”

“I know this is a strange question, but how do you get along with the Fool?”

“The Fool and I get along famously!” Temperance smiled. “Each of us Archetypes realise that we are working with the Fool within each of you when we enter your life. The Fool and I allow you to see all that you can be. Through the two of us you feel comfortable enough to not only dream your big dreams, but to act to manifest them. The manifestation of your dreams functions as a second level of healing. I help the Fool within to find balance, to act in moderation, and to feel the flow of life.”

“What final words do you have for us, Temperance?”

“I am the essence of stability. I manifest Divine light on the physical plane. I am a benevolent force, and bring about healing on all levels. I act to bring opposing energies together. I bring you the protection that you need in order to heal. I am here to travel with you at any and all times … the only hting thaty ou need to do is ask.”

Thank you, Temperance, for your wisdom, and for you patience. We are the better for y ou.

Are You A Master Gardener?

Are you a master gardener? Do you look at your life as a garden, and take the time to seed it, to nurture it, to weed it, and then to sit back and enjoy the results? If not, then you may want to spend some time with Master Gardener Jordan Hoggard’s incredible new blog! Jordan is the author and artist for the “Mystereum Tarot” (lovingly self-published), and “Tarot In The Land Of Mystereum”, the updated version recently released from Schiffer Books. (Blatant self promotion – my review of “Tarot In The Land Of Mystereum” can be seen here – http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/land-mystereum/review.shtml. My 2008 interview with Jordan can be seen here – http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/interview_jordan_hoggard.shtml.)

This is a deck that is meant to be worked with on all levels, not just used for readings (or the occasional journey, ritual or ceremony – which it does well, with its bright colors!). To this end, Jordan has begun a new blog, which can be seen here: JordanHoggard.wordpress.com. Anyone who knows Jordan, or has seen any amount of his work, knows they are in for a treat! (Note: I would love to see Jordan and Craig Conley take on a project together!)

Birth-Placing Identity

One of my favorite Tarot people – Jordan HIggard (“Tarot of the Mystereum”. “Tarot In the Land Of  The Mystereum”) has  a new blog up –http://jordanhoggard.wordpress.com/. I am incredibly impressed with a series that he is currently running entitled “Birth-Placing Identity”. Essentially these are birth cards, using the dual birth card system. In this system, the Fool stands apart, and the birth cards are developed as the higher and lower vibration for the numbers one through nine.

Currently the following numbers up:

Number One: Sun/Wheel/Magician http://jordanhoggard.wordpress.com/2011/04/07/ones-birth-placing-clarity/
Number Three: World/Hanged Man/Empress http://jordanhoggard.wordpress.com/2011/04/07/tarot-birth-card-identities-the-threes/
Number Five: Temperance/Hierophant http://jordanhoggard.wordpress.com/2011/04/09/fives-birth-placing-identity/
Number Seven: Tower/Chariot http://jordanhoggard.wordpress.com/

Anyone who has ever met Jordan, or read any of his work, knows that they have a very special time in store with these blogs! I am going to quote from the blog because Jordan explains this much better than I ever could!

Welcome to my Tarot Birth Card Identity Blog! This blog is intended to be a simple overview of Tarot Birth Cards, a casual and concise walk-through of the groupings of Birth Cards to express some of the ways that they can contribute vital components to identity. Also, I will layer in Birth Card Preludes to express the whole of each Birth Card grouping in a short statement. I find that these Preludes, as I like to call them, are best stated as triggers to remind one how the Birth Cards can integrate an overall expression of a Birth Card combo in a single voice. Enjoy finding your own path with these, and look forward to hearing your own, personal “trigger” Preludes and Birth Card thoughts directly composed from your feeling-sense of them.

Note also how these Birth Card expressions and Preludes factor in to hook up and work with my videos like the Aces Four Potential and Twos To Pair on my website and YouTube channel – check out links below. Enjoy the correspondences of the numbers as they flow back and forth between the Major Arcana in the Birth Cards and each of the suits of the Minor Arcana and Courts in the videos. Also, I encourage you to have some fun and come up with Preludes on your own for the Aces through the Tens, and as well Your Royal Court characters.

Jordan discusses the energy of the cards, adds a link to an incredibly well done video on You Tube, includes scans of the cards (one card on either side of a scan of the card back, which shows lovely “window” symbology”), and shows the reader “how” each birth card combo functions in “real life”.

Definitely a blog to follow! HInt – If you go there, look for the link to Jordan’s discussion of the Death card. There are some true gifts there!

Death As The Master Gardner

I hope that all of  you are following Jordan Hoggard’s new blog on Word Press – http://jordanhoggard.wordpress.com. His latest blog – entitled “Death As The Master Gardner” – gifts the reader with an incredibly in-depth journey with what some consider to be one of the most difficult cards in the deck. Done as a very gentle visualization/journey, the reader is required to be present and take action – Mystereum style! And … Death is allowed to chat on his own!

I am not going to say anything about this blog – you need to experience it for yourself. What I am going to do is to share the reading that I did for myself, using the spread that Jordan offers, the “Treasure of the Stones”. In this spread, the cards are shuffled and divided into three piles, The top card from each pile is read, t hen the cards (stones) are “shaken off”, and the bottom card read. The top card is the chrysalis, the bottom card

Top Cards:
1. The chrysalis of your current idea or situation. Four of Wands
2. The chrysalis of what you need to know about your current idea or situation. The Wheel
3. The chrysalis cracking card. The card of breaking the mold. Six of Pentacles

Bottom Cards:
4. The treasure of your situation from card 1. The Moon
5. The treasure that emerges from what you expected to know from card 2. Knight of Cups
6. The treasure of the magic carpet of flight that emerges from card 3! King of Swords

The complete blog on Death can be seen here: http://jordanhoggard.wordpress.com/2011/04/09/death-as-the-master-gardener-a-little-extra-to-chew-on-bonus/#comment-7.

New Moon In Aries – April 2011

Five of Pentacles, from “Tarot In the Land of Mystereum”, by Jordan Hoggard.

April’s new moon (Sunday, 4/3/2011) occurs in the sign of Aries. While all new moon’s relate to new beginnings, and to setting things in motion, it is important that this new moon is one that carries an enormous amount of power and potential. Think Aries the Ram here! Think Aries the impetuous, headstrong, driven sign of the zodiac. This is a wake up call for all of us – we are going to be resolving (in one fashion or another) long standing issues.

Whatever you have been procrastinating on, you will now find yourself being much, much more decisive about. Along with making those decisions, you will also be acting on them. Expect the unexpected during this new moon, and prepare to be flexible. Being flexible will allow creative energy to flow through you. Being inflexible will end up in feelings of frustration, anger, and perhaps rage … not places that any of us want to even visit, much less live.

With six planets in the fiery sign of Aries, the caveat here is “Think before you act.” Your passions could over-rule common sense if you don’t watch out – whether it be in your personal life or your career. Take the leadership position in your own life at this time … allow yourself to be confident, to take bold steps in an assertive fashion. Make sure that your decisions and actions are in alignment with your belief system. Cutting corners to achieve an end at this point in time will definitely come back to bite you!

I am going to preface what I am about to say with this thought – I am not an astrologer, this is my personal opinion. This new moon is taking place during a Mercury retrograde. One expects delays, snafus, and all kinds of disruptive chaos during a Mercury retrograde. The brash, forward moving energy of Aries will somewhat blunt this. However, if you choose to fight the Aries energy … well, there will be hell to pay!

Channel all of this really cool energy in a constructive manner. Focus on resolving those long standing issues in a positive manner. Trying to force an outcome will not end up well for anyone! This is a good time to free yourself from self-imposed limitations, and to grow in any and all ways. Allow new wisdom to come to you … and it will!

What energy do we have from the Tarot to assist us at this time? From “Tarot In the Land of Mystereum” (by Jordan Hoggard) I drew the Five of Pentacles. A card of chaos (which is how I see the Five’s) is going to assist us in dealing with the raw power of Aries? In his companion book, Jordan reminds us that physical or material problems could restrict our emotions when this card shows up. His suggestion is that we look within ourselves to determine what we can do to improve our situation. This is powerful energy to use to assist us in dealing with the changes this new moon will activate. Remember, these are changes in long standing issues, changes that will free us and allow us to walk our paths with determination and dignity. The message here – “Allow yourself to heal fromt he inside.”
